Oh, Gary…

We were initially told Gary was a boy, but it turns out, Gary is actually a female!

Gary knows their name and we generally use they/them pronouns, because Gary can be whatever they want to be. 

Gary most definitely thinks that they're a cow, and we're fine with that. For years, Gary lived in the pasture amongst his cow brothers and sisters, but with the arrival of Thorn, Leaf, Lilly, Petal and Molly, we eventually integrated them amongst his goat fam.

A long time ago, before we took over the farm, there were 15 goats living there.

Gary was the most elusive, and escaped whatever fate they may have had. They were basically feral and wanted nothing to do with humans when we first got there. 

Gary is still suspicious and keeps their distance, but over the years we’ve been able to make huge progress where now Gary might even come and take a couple of nibbles out of our hands.

Every day we take time out to specifically work with Gary and build trust. Gary's best friend is Nellie, and they can always be seen laying together.
